Estas palabras vienen de los corazones de la comunidad horizontal y autogestiva del Rancho Electrónico, un hackerspace en la Ciudad de México. Nuestras actividades son abiertas y se enfocan en mantener un espacio compartido donde podemos aprender juntxs utilizando tecnologías libres. Uno de nuestros proyectos es promover el uso de la comunicación segura y el cifrado como estrategía para defender nuestra privacidad , dado que en México el gobierno vigila las comunicaciones electrónicas con el pretexto de resguardar la seguridad pública. Pero esto, no ha disminuido los altos indices de violencia, asesinatos de periodistas, violaciones a los derechos humanos, represión a activistas, ni la explotación de la población, el territorio y sus recursos.
Con todo su aparato de vigilancia el gobierno aún niega saber la verdad sobre lo ocurrido en Iguala, Guerrero donde 6 estudiantes fueron asesinados y 43 más fueron desaparecidos. La vigilancia electrónica masiva no ha servido para mejorar la seguridad en el país y más bien funciona como otro instrumento de control y represión.
>Sabemos que México no es un caso aislado y que el abuso no sólo viene desde dentro del país sino que gobiernos y empresas extranjeras colaboran y son cómplices También sabemos que en todo el mundo la gente de abajo sufren situaciones similares de injusticia.
Para nosotrxs son grandes referentes las comunidades autónomas en lucha de México. Se organizan para mirarse entre ellxs, para resolver sus problemas, para construir donde los gobiernos destruyen. Y no están solxs, habemos cada vez más comunidades aprendiendo a defendernos y organizarnos con autonomía y dignidad.
En el Rancho Electrónico usamos el software libre y la comunicación cifrada como herramientas para defender las cosas que nos son mas importantes, la comunidad, la diversidad y sobre todo la alegría.
Nota: Este evento fue un reconocimiento para el trabajo colectivo del Rancho Electrónico. Es importante mencionar que el reconocimiento no incluyó una recompensa económica o premio en dinero.

These words come from the hearts of the Rancho Electrónico community, a horizontally organized and self sustained hackerspace in Mexico City. Our activities are free and open and focused on maintaining a shared space where we can learn together using free technologies.One of our projects is the promotion of secure and encrypted communication as a strategy for defending our privacy since in México the government surveils all electronic communications under the pretext of defending public security.
But this surveillance has not reduced the high levels of violence, assasinations of journalists, violations of human rights, represion of activists, nor the exploitation of the people, the territory and its resources. With all of it’s surveillance apparatus the government still denies knowing the truth about what happened in Iguala, Guerrero where 6 students were killed and another 43 more were dissappeared. Mass electronic surveillance has not helped improve security in our country and has functioned as yet another instrument of control and repression.
We know that México is not an isolated case and that this abuse not only comes from within the country as foreign governments and companies colaborate and are complices. We also know that in all the world the people from below suffer similar situations of injustice. For us the autonomous communities of México in the struggle are important examples. They organize to recognize each other, to solve their problems, to build where the government destroys. And they are not alone, every day we are more communities learning to organize and defend ourselves with autonomy and dignity.
In the Rancho Electrónico we use free software and encrypted communications as tools to defend those things that are most important to us, community, diversity and above all else joy.
